Children Rescued from Sex Trafficking and the Hope of the Gospel

Children Rescued from Sex Trafficking and the Hope of the Gospel

1Saved is an international organization fighting human trafficking by providing gospel-centered aftercare to child sex trafficking victims in the Philippines.

During our most recent trip to the Philippines, we were able to taste and see the kingdom of God through our girls at Rahab’s House, an aftercare shelter for victims of child sex trafficking. There are currently ten girls ages 3-17 staying in the home, all of whom have been rescued out of cybersex trafficking dens. They have been abandoned, betrayed, abused, and exploited for profit by their own family members, in most cases, and in others, trusted friends. And yet, when we got to spend time with them, they have hope and they are healing.

How do I communicate through words the amazing work that God is doing through this ministry and the all-satisfying experience of joy when witnessing what God has done through both rescue and redemption in these girls’ lives and hearts?

Let me do my best by inviting you into the experience we had when we attended a service with the girls at our local church partner. During the vibrant worship time, we sang a song called “The Hope of All Hearts” by Planetshakers. The lyrics are:

    “The world may fade
    You will remain
In the midst of the trial
You will always be, I'll sing
    Our God never fails
    Our God never fails

    With hope and light
    You reign over all
    Though my heart may fail
You will always be, I'll sing
    Our God never fails
    Our God never fails

    Praise in the morning
    Praise in the evening
    Praise when I'm laughing
    Praise when I'm grieving
    There will be dancing
    There will be singing
Upon injustice we will tell of our God

    The hope of all hearts
The hope of all hearts Is you
    Your love never fails
    Your love never fails”

I’m standing in the front row of this tiny Filipino church and yet I’m witnessing a demonstration of God’s Spirit that I’ve not seen in any worship service, mega conference, or Christian concert. These girls behind us were singing with all they had—some of them shedding tears—as they freely express the hope they now have in God. A God who—when everyone else had abandoned them—heard their cries and answered their prayers. Most of these girls had not ever heard the gospel before coming to Rahab’s House. Now, through the ministry of the staff, the local church, and in a small way us at 1Saved International, many of them know Jesus and have put their trust in him.

    ...Praise when I'm laughing
    Praise when I'm grieving
    There will be dancing
    There will be singing
Upon INJUSTICE we will tell of our God…
The hope of all hearts Is you

    ...Your love never fails

Who takes the poor, the marginalized, the enslaved, the orphan, and makes their redemption His glory? This is our God, and there is NONE like Him! The glory of His goodness pictured so clearly in the journey of these girls is what this ministry (and the kingdom of God) is all about.

Crossroads partners with 1Saved International in ministry and in prayer. Jeremiah, Matt, and Rod had the opportunity to visit recently and establish relations with our local church partner and its pastors. I continue to be amazed at how God is uniting those from a church in Grand Rapids, Michigan to partner with those from a small church across the world in this BIG work of His.

How do we make His name great? We will continue to proclaim His glory to all who are witness to the tragic and beautiful work He has called us to. Upon injustice we will tell of our God...the hope of ALL hearts is you...
