Have you ever flipped from the book of Malachi, the last book of the Old Testament, to Matthew, the first book of the New Testament, and noticed the world is completely different? A new empire, new people groups, new cultures, a new language…everything has changed. There are approximately 400 years between the Old and New Testament, and these “silent years” profoundly shaped the world that Jesus would enter into. This elective will focus on the historical, social, cultural, religious, and even geographical changes that impacted God’s people during these often forgotten years, and then to begin to look at Jesus’ own life and ministry through this new lens.
