In Genesis 1, the Sabbath was created by God on the 7th day (day of completion) and called it holy. Sabbath means rest, deep satisfaction, deep joy. Holy means set apart. Using Bible Gateway or other free internet concordances, conduct a quick word study of "keep the Sabbath." Read the references aloud. What concepts are reinforced? Discuss those concepts and why they are connected with the Sabbath.
Read Matthew 12:1-8, Mark 2:23-28. One of Jesus' many titles is "Lord of the Sabbath". What inferences can you make as a result of Jesus claiming this title?
How might the passages referenced above and those specifically mentioned by Rod (Is 58, Ex 31, 2 Chron 36, Is 61) affect the way we think about the Sabbath?
Why is the Sabbath important for all God's creation?
