Andrew & Marta Speas
Andrew and Marta serve in Cantabria, Spain with Hogar Asubio, which means “a place of safe refuge in stormy weather.” Their ministry is precisely that, a safe place for young people who find themselves in difficult circumstances, young adults who need a healthy family environment. The Speas live in community with these young people, helping them find spiritual and emotional restoration in their troubled lives.
Our desire is to create a space where these young people can be spurred on in their walk with Christ and be encouraged to take active steps to better their lives whether emotionally, educationally, spiritually, or professionally. We pray that by walking through life with them in a healthy, family context, we’ll be able to encourage them in their academic studies, practically guide them in future life decisions, and support them in strengthening their relationship with Christ.
God called us to serve in the north of Spain after a few years living in the States working with foster families and kids on the spectrum. Here in Cantabria, we are serving the local church and Hogar Asubio. It’s a space created for young adults (18-25) where they can live among us, while learning and benefiting from a mentor-disciple relationship. The people that come into our home are dealing with hopelessness, depression, addictions, anxiety, suicidal ideations, and many other situations that so many of today’s youth are facing.
We are also part of the leadership of our local church Comunidad Cristiana Esencia where we serve in different areas like, marriage, small groups, worship, teaching/preaching, helping people at risk of social exclusion, and youth programs. Part of the vision of the church is to create a second service on Sunday and opening another location in this year.
