Sermon Application Questions
Read James 3:13 and Deuteronomy 4:5-6.
What sort of person is James calling us to be and how does Deuteronomy 4:5-6 focus the end game for us becoming that kind of person?
Read Genesis 3:1-6.
How do you see jealousy and selfish ambition emerge in this story? In what ways do you believe the lie that you can do what's right in our own eyes and not just be like God, but be God? Can you think of an example in your life when you believed this lie and it created chaos and destruction for you and others, rather than peace and flourishing ?
Consider the list of attributes that describe what James calls "the wisdom from above," in James 3:17. Is there a specific quality here that the Holy Spirit is convicting you about? Is there a relationship, situation, or private struggle you need to bring to your community and receive Jesus into as the true Wisdom from above?
