Sermon Application Questions

Read Mark 12:28-37

If you boil down the sermon into a few words, what was it about?

What is the difference between temple and synagogue? Consider the leadership, purposes, and the role it plays in Jewish life. What was the shift that took place as a result of having a synagogue in which to worship? Why is this important to us?

What is the kingdom of heaven (kingdom of God)? What are the three defining characteristics?

What does it mean to love God? What does it mean to love your neighbor? Why does Jesus connect these two ideas so closely?

The vision that drives everything at Crossroads is the kingdom of God. Discuss specific ways you see that vision playing out day-to-day within our church. Are there ways would you like to see Crossroads expand what it is doing to bring about the kingdom of God? How are you engaged in that vision? Are there ways or opportunities for you to more whole-heartedly pursue in that vision?

What is the English translation for “shema”? Why would a Jew start and end their day this way?

End your time by declaring the shema (Mark 29b – 31a) aloud.
